During this month we celebrate the benefits that pets bring to people's lives - and hopefully of the benefits that humans bring to pets’ lives. The focus of National Pet Month is to promote the benefits of pet ownership and support pet adoption. It also helps to increase public awareness of services available from professionals who work with animals such as animal shelters, veterinarians, and pet behaviorists. At the same time, it can also help to raise awareness of the role, value and contribution to society of working companion animals. During the month of May, visit the Pope Memorial Frontier Animal Shelter or a shelter near you to spend some time with the animals that are there looking for their own “furever” home. While you’re there, you may decide to volunteer on a regular basis or donate to help support the costs of these furry friends while they reside at the shelter.
